3rd Monday, January 5th 1874 I did not feel like washing today. And as it was very cold concluded to postpone it. I helped do the work. Mother went to town in the afternoon. When she came home she told us she had seen parties from down in the valley and the party at Moon's was tonight. Owen and I went down. It was intensely cold. But we enjoyed our selves so well we were not at all sorry we went. Tuesday, January 6th 1874 Mother went to town and was gone all day. It took me most of the time to do the work. In the evening just after we got through supper, a sleigh load of young folks drove up and wanted us to go a couple of miles in the country to a spelling school. Rob, Owen and my self went and enjoyed it very much. We had a splendid sleigh ride and were late getting home. A much pleasanter evening than last evening was. Mr Allen came back today
