7th Thursday January 15th 1874 Weather a little more moderate but still very cold. We did nothing but the house work Mother went to Folsoms a few moments in the afternoon. In the evening Rob had a spelling school We went out but as there was a small attendance did not stay very long. Charlie went down to Muscatine at four this morning. Read till late to finish a book. Friday January 16th 1874 I washed in the morning and did some copying and commiting in the afternoon while Mother was gone to town. In the evening I read and wrote. Weather some pleasanter. Saturday January 17th 1874 It was late before we got up so we were behind hand all day with our work. It took all the time to do the baking the ironing and regulate up the house. A very pleasant winter day. Mother went to town in the afternoon. I read in the evening.
