9th Wednesday January 21st 1874 It was rather late when we got up this morning and I did nothing but the homework in the forenoon. Winnie came home today. All glad to see her. Mother got home this afternoon. And it is lucky she did. For just before night it began to rain heavily. I had a note from George Hand today he said there was a party of young folks coming here from town tonight. It stormed so they could not come. We visited with Winnie all the evening. Thursday January 22nd 1874 It snowed the whole day. I ironed and we did considerable baking. Rob was to have had a spelling school tonight but it was too stormy. The Stevens boys were here and stayed all the evening. We played cards awhile, And had some music. Rob and I studied and rehearsed our parts some. A disagreable day and night.
