10th Friday January 23rd 1874 I did most of the work in the forenoon for Mother went to town with Winnie and Charlie in the sleigh. I went to town in the afternoon made a host of calls and did not get home till nearly night. As soon as we got supper over the Stevens boys came after us to go in the country to a spelling school. We started and got part way there. It began to snow so heavily that we turned around and came back home. They stopped here awhile after we got back. Winnie did not go with us for she had company. Saturday January 24th 1874 It was pretty late when we got up. We were all day doing the house work. In the evening Rob, Winnie, Owen, and myself went over east of town in the sleigh to Lyceum. Mr Sanders and Emma Middleton came home with us. We attempted a rehearsal tonight. But the characters were not all here, so it did not amount to much.
