Friday February 5th 1897 The boys cut the lard today and did the greater part of the work with the hogs. It is about all done. I was able to help a little. I read in the evening. Saturday February 6th 1897 I felt much better today and got around with the work in the forenoon. Will took the Andersons lard press home. We went to town in the afternoon. I took the Ashleys some chickens. We saw a number of the valley folks in town. Aunt Emma has been called to Kansas by the illness of Annas little girl. We read all evening after the work was done. Sunday February 7th 1897 My cold was worse again but we went down home in the afternoon. The folks were all down from Des Moines to attend Clara Ashleys wedding the first of the week. We came home in time to do evening work. I went to bed early. Monday February 8th 1897 I was not able to get up this morning. Will got some breakfast and went in after Mother. She came right out. I got up at dinner time and helped a little with the work and visited with Mother. I cough a great deal yet. Tuesday February 9th 1897 I felt so much better that Will took Mother home again this morning. I was busy all the forenoon. John went to haul wood after early dinner. Mary & Jennie Woolf were out in the afternoon. I feel awfully disappointed to not be able to go to Clara Ashleys wedding tonight and my staying at home keeps Will here so he has to miss it too.
