132 them well with water and in a stone mortar beat them to pieces then lay in ye bottom of your distilled pot Angelica Celandine and two handfuls to which put two quarts of rosemary flowers bears foot agrimony red dock roots bark of barber rich betony wood sorel and two handfuls rue one handfull then lay ye snails and worms on ye top of ye hearbs and flowers then pour on 3 gallons of ye strongest ale and let it stand all night in ye morning put in 3 ounces of cloves beaten six penny-worth of beaten saffron and on ye top of them six ounces of shaved harts-horn then sit on the Limbeck and close it with paste and so receive the water
