13th me a nice paper of confectionary and appeared very anxious about my health how we had ought to appreciate such friends. I put in most of my spare time writing a letter to Mrs Palmer I sent it to town by Mr H_ this is the first Sunday I have not attended church this year, retired quite early Monday January 29th 1872. It was intensely cold this morning though the wind did not blow as it did yesterday I feel some better did not teach today Hattie took charge of the school in the forenoon and Rob in the afternoon there was a very small attendance Charlie came home about noon and cut and hauled ice in the afternoon the mail had not come in from the east when he came over we only got two meals today. made Hatt a new dark calico dress today. I had an awful streak of luck today I lost Bertie's letter out of my pocket and the hogs tore that picture I felt terribly about it but there was no help for it perhaps she will have another one she can spare me hope so any way.
