223rd Wednesday December 31st 1873. I washed this forenoon and had only just got through when Minervia Hart came over. I cleaned up the house after dinner and sewed a little Mother was busy all day frying out lard and putting away meat, As the boys killed yesterday afternoon. Minervia did not go home till after supper. I sewed all the evening. I hardly know what to say in honor of the last day of the year I cannot realize the year 1873 has gone never to return May I only live to write in my diary the last day of 1874 Iowa Byington See next volume for Jan 1, 1874
