Eye Water Used by Sir Stephen Fox when 60 years old & could hardly see with spectacles but with this he recovered his sight could read the smallest pirnt without spectacles till he was above 80 Take 6 oz of rectified spirits of wine dissolve in it 1 drachm of Camphor then add two small handfuls of dried Elder flowers in 24 hours after it is infused it is ready for use take out a little in a teaspoon dip your finger in it and bathe your forehead over your eyes & each temple several times morning & night & twice more in the day constantly Mean time dip a soft rag dead small with milk warm & dab each eye gently a dozn times more & [rub?] if it is a watery humour you may with your finger wet the eyelids 2 or 3 times each be sure to shut your eye or it makes them smart & burn very much It will cure also any inflamation in the eyes If you have the [porttuate?] or swelled face rub it well on the part & it will take away the Pain. It will also cure any bruise if applied immediately Infusion of Roses Take 1 oz of the young shoots of the common Briar or Day Rose out of the Hedges 3 pints of Boiling Water 1 oz of White sugar & 1/2 a drachm of vitriolic acid - Steep your your Buds in the Boiling Water in a Vessel not glasses with Lead for 4 or 5 hours then add the sugar & Vitriolic acid after you have strained them take a Wine glass full 3 or 4 times a day it is better to make double this quantity. An unglazed Brown jar is the safest to it in To Mend China a penny worth of Lime & a half pennyworth of rosin melted together J. Wood
