May, MONDAY, 4, 1863. our entire Regiment was on Fatigue duty to day making Roads towards Richmond La The Canal is a failure like the first one Some Heave Rains lately. (Diagonally over entry:-) this aplies to April 28 on march to Grand gulf Missippi TUESDAY, 5. We marched 15 miles to day Reached the missippi at 4. Very tired foot sore & Hungry. on half rations met 500 Rebel prisoners taken at Grand Gulf Miss on 3d May. (Vertically over entry:-) Camped on Perkins Plantation a Rebel Senator WEDNESDAY, 6. We Resumed our March down the River. passed a great many Deserted plantation egligently furnished. many Cotton Gins & Houses Burned by strglers
