May, THURSDAY, 7, 1863. Reached Hard Times Landing 75 miles from Duck Port. We Crossed over to Grand Gulf and Camped for to night I looked over the Captured Fort FRIDAY, 8. I mailed a letter to day for Jane and one for G. L. Henderson I got a letter from Jane & one from David We started again at 11 oclock marched 14 miles & Camped very rough (Vertically over last two entries:-) on short Rations since we crossed the River SATURDAY, 9. Stoped this forenoon & foraged for Beef Cattle & sheep & Killed them & Cooked the meat, and resumed our march to Rocky Run 25 miles from Grand Gulf. a Very Broken Country Hereabouts
