May, WEDNESDAY, 13, 1863. Yesterday some of McPhersons Corps had a fight with the Rebels near Raymond we Captured 500 Prisoners & 300 men Killed & Wounded. We formed line of Battle & drove the Rebels from a tract of Woods & Camp THURSDAY, 14. We resumed the march and marched 12 miles formed line of Battle 3 times the Rebels not [reacting?] every time, We entered Jackson at 3 oclock & Camped in Town about 25 of 5 Division Wounded (Vertically over last two entries:-) The Rebels opposed us for about 3 hours with shot Canister & shell, but evacuated & burned the Depot & stores as we entered Jackson our Company & B of 12th Iowa were the first to advance as [we arrived?] on the East I was acting 2d Lieut of scirmishers FRIDAY, 15. our Brigade went out 5 miles on Memphis Rail Road & tore up the track. I slept with my Clothes wringing wet last night I got a dry shirt from a secesh Rucksack this morning (Vertically over entry:-) our Company made a Kettle of Chicken soup this morning in a 20 gallon Kettle of 10 chickens 5 Turkies & 5 geese. I commenced a letter to Jane but was ordered off
