May, MONDAY, 25, 1863. I am Reading The fortunes of Nigel by Walter Scott. I & D Reed went out as sharpshooters this afternoon our forces are employed making gradual aproach to the Rebel Forts, and planting Batteries TUESDAY, 26. an Armistice took palace yesterday long enough to bury the dead. I got two letters from Jane, one from James Henderson Sr & Jim & Isabella & two from David. Wrote one to Jane. [?] our Company & G were sent on Picket WEDNESDAY, 27. [To greats?] were made by the Rebels last night. I had Charge Temporarily of the Company on Picket. Skirmished with the Rebels all day. J. E. McCall wounded. The Capt Had Charge of 3 Companies.
