Siege of Vicksburgh May, SUNDAY, 31, 1863. I have Bloody flux now. Heavey Cannonade from our Batteries this morning at 3 oclock We lay in line of Battle untill day light. large Details are made for fatigue duty so that the entire Company Come on duty nearly every day. June MONDAY, 1. I am Reading Peveril of the Peak by Walter Scott, which some of our Boys got at Jackson Miss. an alarm was given at 11 P.M. & we lay in line all night. Made the Company Report for May TUESDAY, 2. On duty with 10 of our Company [fixing?] Gun Platform. I wrote a letter to Jane. Went 2 miles to wash off. Governor Kirkwood and Gen Baker Here visiting Iowa Regts. Heavey Cannonade to night. Very Hot.
