Before Vicksburgh June, SATURDAY, 6, 1863. Heavey details from our company to dig trenches and build Bastions for 64 [bt?] Guns. Reading Peveril of the peak. built Bunks in our Tent Very Hot weather SUNDAY, 7 I wrote a letter to Jane and one to Father & Mother Recd. a letter from David wrote an answer to David. Went to Creek to wash. Heard a slave preach this evening MONDAY, 8. David Reed mustered in as 2d Lieutenant. E. H. Adams got His Leg shot off with a shell from our Batteries when He was in Front Sharpshooting. Leg amputated our Co has 1 Killed & 3 Wounded since siege Commenced
