June, SUNDAY, 21, 1863. had a good wash in a shell cartridge Box. I Wrote a letter to Jane. Reading the Strougles of Brown, Jones & Robinson. Very Pleasant Day MONDAY, 22. I wrote a letter to David. We fixed a palling round T N. Smiths grave. We were order to march at 3 oclock for Black River. Camped in Cotton field 5 miles out. TUESDAY, 23. Marched 8 miles in direction of Black river the Rebels crossed the Black yesterday & drove our Cavilry back Killing 6 & taking some prisoners Very Hot for marching
