Camp Near Bear Creek June, SATURDAY, 27, 1863. Reading Percival Keene by Marryatt. Recd. orders to Keep the Rebels at Bay at all Hazards. got 1 quart Berries 26 cts. Had a good wash off. and clen shirt on. Very dry & Hot SUNDAY, 28. Spent this forenoon Reading. Companies C, D, & part of F were sent on picket in Comand of Lieuts Soper & Reed. I had charge of a squad of 9 men on the front at night. MONDAY, 29. on duty with squad 6 Hrs last night and 6 Hour to day. Wrote a letter to Mother Durno Recd. a letter from Mother Durno & Jane. Relieved from duty at 4 P. M. opressively Hot.
