Camp near Bear Creek July, FRIDAY, 3, 1863. Went out Black Berrying got one quart. had a very good dinner with milk for berries & coffee. wrote a letter to David. an armistic at Vicksburgh today for some purpose. perhaps offering terms of surrender SATURDAY, 4. The garrison of Vicksburgh surrendered to day and stacked arms, We of Sherman Corps ordred into the Interior. marched from Camp at 3 p. m. I wrote to Jane, with news SUNDAY, 5. The Garrison of Vicksburgh are various estimated from 25 000 to 40 000 prisoners, We Camped 3 miles from Black River to wait for orders from Grant. I Read the Life of Col. Crockets
