July, MONDAY, 6, 1863. Marched at 3 oclock, Our Division in advance, Crossed Black River shelled the Woods. the Rebels Retreated, and we advanced 5 miles after dark Captured one Post of Pickets, and Bivuacked in a Cotton field. Slight shower. TUESDAY, 7. Marched at 10 oclock on the Jackson Road. Blair and Steele Divisions passed us in advance. Camped near Bolton in a very heavey rain. We passed over J. Davis's Plantation, it is Laid waste WEDNESDAY, 8. Resumed the March on Jackson at 7 oclock A. M. Waited at Bolton Station from 9 to 5 P.M. for the 9th Army Corps to Come up & then marched untill 12 oclock P.M. to within 10 miles of Jackson The 9th Corps from the Pottomac
