July, THURSDAY, 9, 1863. Bivoacked in sight of Clinton, and marched at 8 oclock towards Jackson. Stoped 6 miles from Jackson waiting for the concentrating of our forces. one Orderly shot by Rebels. Our Division in Advance, Co. B. 21 Iowa FRIDAY, 10. Saw Mr Drumond of McGregor, Advanced at 6 oclock driving the Rebels inside their works at Jackson. Stoped 2 miles from their works. foraging for suplies. got any quantity of Reading matters & some fresh meat.& Corn SATURDAY, 11. The Rebels are shelling us with 64 lb shells several burst over the 12th Iowa. Erwin Comstock & N. H. Spears taken prisoners with a forage train. The train Recaptured, not the men. I wrote to Jane.
