Before Jackson Missippi July, SUNDAY, 12, 1863. Our Regt. sent out as an escort for a forage train of 50 wagons. Got them all filled 9 miles out and Returned same day passed the place where our 4 waggons was burned and prisoners taken yesterday MONDAY, 13. Returned to our Position in front of our Brigade. I wrote a letter to Father. The 3d Iowa Regt. were nearly annihalated by an unauthorized Charge ordered by Gen Lauman. TUESDAY, 14. I am Reading the Gentelman in Black. The Rebels are shelling our Camp very acurately. An Armistic this forenoon to Bury the Dead. Very Heavey firing in afternoon. Wrote a letter to David
