July, SATURDAY, 18, 1863. Had to Camp untill 5 oclock when we were orded out across Pearl River to Brandon 12 miles distant Camped west side of River Geddes of 8, I in Command of Expedition SUNDAY, 19. Advanced at 9 oclock Rebel Cavilry falling back Before us 3 000 strong. They made a stand and we had a sharp engagement the 12th & 8 Iowa in Front and drove the Rebels beyond Brandon. (Vertically, over the entry:-) Our Loss was two Killed & 4 Wounded the Rebel loss 30 Killed & Wounded MONDAY, 20. Destroyed the Depts & 3 miles of Rail Road and marched Back to Camp 14 mi in Half day The shell passed over our Regt Close to us and some burst amongst us throwing the dirt all over us yesterday. (Vertically, over the entry:-) on the march to day I saw the greatest number of men full out exausted I have ever seen on a march
