July, TUESDAY, 21, 1863. in the last two days we marched 35 miles fought a Battle at Brandon & destroyed 6 miles of the Meridian Rail Road and came Back to Camp and rested today. (Vertically over entry:-) Reading Waverly. We have Hundred of Books of every description in Camp WEDNESDAY, 22. Stoped in Camp at Jackson Thousand of Negroes are coming in preparing to go Back with us. We have orders to go Back to Black River and Rest during the Hot season THURSDAY, 23. Started for Black River this A. M. at 3 oclock. Jackson is Destroyed and Evacuated. We stoped at Clinton for the night Destroying all Rebel Cotton & Rebel Property on the Retreat
