Camp on Bear Creek August, WEDNESDAY, 5, 1863. I wrote a letter to Jane with $1.00 enclosed & a letter to J. Henderson and a letter to Mother Henderson. Read Late papers got a pass signed for me & J. D. Baker to Vicksburg for 3 days by Co. Regt. Brig. & Division Commanders THURSDAY, 6. Joe Baker and myself started for Vicksburg at 4 got there at 9 - looked over the Rebel works. not much of the City Destroyed. Terrible Battered Defending the place to Cloudy for Photographs, took supper with Lieuttenants (Vertically over entry:-) Drumond & Lyons of the 21" Iowa Infantry & staid all night with them FRIDAY, 7. got acquainted with Lieut McDonald Co B. 21 Iowa. took Dinner with Lieut. Drumond, and started for Black River at 2 oclock P. M. Photagraph $10.00 for Doz. Could not stand the swindle & dident take Had a good time However in Vicksburg
