Dubuque Iowa November, FRIDAY 27 1863. Reading Homers Iliad this forenoon. Mrs C. W. Skinner invited us to spend the evening at Her Fathers, Mr Tibbles where we had singing by Her & sister, & game of Whist SATURDAY, 28. I got 5 of my Photagraphs to day sent one to Jane by Mail. Spent the morning with some of Davids friends in Boarding House. Steady Hard frost SUNDAY, 29. I wrote Jane to day. As the River is blocking up with ice, I crossed over to Dunleith, & took the 4 oclock train for Cairo David took me down in a Buggy to ferry Boat.
