143 Steamer Belle Memphis May 22d 1864 Sunday left Cairo at 5 P.M. yesterday & we passed Fort Pillow at noon today, and Reached Memphis at 6 oclock this evening, where I found that 6 Companies of the 12th had gone down to the mouth of White River on duty to wit Companies A. B. C. D. F. & H I was assigned to Co. K for the present untill a chance down ocurs. I wrote to Jane on the Boat
