175 Memphis Tennessee June 23d 1864 Thursday I left Memphis to Return to Regt. at the Front, and was fired on at a place Called Forest Hill & 5 men Killed & 13 wounded. the 46th Iowa guard behaved very aallantly in driving off the guerrillas, the Causuallitis were mostly in the 178 New York Regt. I Recd a Letter from Jane today dated June 14th
