194 Pontotoc Mississippi July 12th 1864 Tuesday our expedition lay over all day to day with the exception of some of our Cavilry which skirmished with enemy in the direction of ocoloona. several men were Killed on Both sides. the Rebels are in force in our front & fortified Considerable the weather is very Hot. Gen Hatch arived from Memphis with a dispatch to Gen Smith
