19 Selma Ala. June 1st 1865 Thursday This day by Proclamation of the President was observed as a day of Humiliation and Prayer. All business, Drills, and Military Duties not absolutely necessary was Dispensed with to day by order of Gen McArthur and this evening at 6 o'clock P.M. Chaplin Edwards of the 7th.. Miss Delivered an admirable address on our late National Calamity. A very large Audience. During the address a Rebel Officer escorting two Ladies passed with noding plumes and evidently quite indiferent to the Solemnities of the ocasion.
