1 Vicksburg Miss July 1/65 Saturday Left Vicksburg this morning on my return to Selma, Ala. My fellow passenger in [name - Hesk?] from Big Black To Jackson was a Hampton, brother of the celebrated General Hampton of Cavilry fame. He Hampton gave me an account of his brothers career & Battle which numbers about 150. Also some incidents of Forest,s life. reached Jackson at 1/2 past 8 p.m. stoped at Dickson House with Ed Totten Co. G 8th Iowa Infty
