3 Meridian Miss July 3rd/65 Monday Took train for Selma this morning where I arrived at 5 p.m. after an absence of 7 days in which time I have traveled by sail and stage 500 miles through a wilderness of desolation and over wasted plantations the region between the Alabama and Tombigby rivers is very fertile and considerably cultivated and planted to corn. Recd tonight one letter from Mrs. Henderson, one from James Jr. & Mr. Elvam
