4 Selma Ala July 4, 1865 Tuesday this celebrated day is passing off very quietly here. A national salute with artillery at noon & considerable promises on firing amongst the Men. Considerable beer and whiskey drinking amongst some who seem to think that patriotism is measured by the quantity of such pisons they can imbibe. Speech by Dr. Henry at Brigade Hq. Int. at 6 p.m. Southern citizen not very jubilant on the anniversary of American Independence.
