5 I wrote a letter to Mrs. C. J. Henderson this evening about 5000 Colored people were in town to day, or rather legal American Citizens of the African persuasion came in from the surrounding plantations to learn about freedom, and the relations they have to the general gov't & humanity at large. They behaved very properly, and retired in good season, and in good order. There is and will be great suffering amongst them for some time. and the Alabamians try to augment it.
