18 Selma Ala. July 14" 1865 Friday Mr. Brown & I went out to the woods and Cut a load of poles & brush, and with the assistance of Mr. Hutchin we fixed quite a good shade over our House & Kitchen & Dining room, and while I had my hand in I made a split Hickory Broom, & Brown made another, so we are well supplie in household utensils. Henry, our Cook, lost one of His Children with dropsy. He burried it to day, & seems much
