37 Selma Ala Aug 11" 1865 Friday I had another Chill & fever to day. and I took 3 doses of quinine during the past night but it failed to Check the ague, but succeeded in giveing too me the most racking Head Ache imaginable. I wrote one letter to jane however which was all I Could do. The weather is intolerably Hot to day, the Suns rays being reflected back from the parched Earth heating the atmosphere & giving ten fold intensity to fever.
