40 Selma Ala Aug 14" 1865 Monday I read Walter Scots Doom of Devorgoil" a Poetical piece intended for the Stage. And some of His Ballads, Songs, &c.&c. We had a very refreshing Shower this afternoon which was greatly needed, and very thankfully received by me at least. for it is beautifull to see the parched Earth revive and make efforts to cloak Herself in flowers & folliage, in grate full accknowledgement of the refreshing Shower. (Vertically, at left:-) Wrote a joint letter to the Misses Kerrs Angy Lavinia & Asceneth
