48 Selma Ala. Aug. 22' 1865 Tuesday finished reading that splendid old History Plutarchs Lives. I wrote a letter to D. B. Henderson on the Situation of affairs in Ala. General McArthur & Staff went to Montgomery to day. as [summer?] [arrives?] to releive Gen A. J. Smith for the purpose of taking a leave of Absence for two months. James Henderson taken with fever & Chills again. played some games for exercise today with the Boys
