68 Selma Ala Sept 8" 1865 Friday had the 1st good heavy showers of rain of the season Cooling of the ground & purifying the Atmosphere finely. had mail Tonight I had a letter from Mrs Henderson of Date Aug 20" harvest nearly over, all well I had a very long letter from George [Mostly?] on the dimly understood Moral decisions as promulgated by Humboldt's Cosmos. I had Two McGregor papers the News, Corporal J. W. King Co. C. is [Disafecting?] Considerable in Town & getting in rows with the Citizens. He is on Detached Service (Vertically, at bottom right:-) C. S. Dept.
