23 Vicksburg Miss June 30" / 1865 Friday I stoped in Town to day watching every boat, and train as they arrived but without success. I made application for an order from Gen Smith to prevail in Memphis But He was unwilling to give it as it would be exceeding my orders, so I wrote to the Sheriff of Allamakee County to arrest Brown., wrote a letter to Mrs Henderson and made preperation for return to Selma. My Health has been poor for some & this trip has not improved it any
