8 Selma Ala Sept 23d 1865 Saturday Our Mess had a Settlement of our Account up to the 24" of this Month, and my Mess expenses from the 14" of June to the 24" of Sept. in Cash has been $54,10 we Allowed for the Govt Ration 25 Cents per day, the regular price. The 2d Iowa Cavilry left for Home on this morning train by way of Meridian Corinth & Columbus & Cairo. I wrote a letter to Mrs. C.J. Henderson. All feel great Reluctans to leave Selma where we are well fixed up, to proceed to a new Field of operations
