73 Center Ala Nov 20" 1865 Monday had Some rain to day; I & Capt Reed paid a visit to Mr J. Cunningham and I find that He is one of the few enlightened Southern men who advocate the education of the Freedmen & their Families & is in favor of establishing them on the Plantation as Tenants of the land Holders untill they by Education, experiance, & Industry become property holders themselves., So that by showing an interest in the wellfare of the Freedmen the best interest of the planters is enhanced.
