5 Center Ala Nov 30th 1865 Thursday The place seems lonesome, as the reduction of the Garrison from 50 to 20 makes a very perceptable difference in the population. Some of those who were Detailed to leave gave as high as four Dollars to some of those who Stay for Changing and allowing them to Stay in their stead. the desire to Stay was the result of having good places to board, quarters &c, yet if the order had been to go Home, all would have gladly gone. Many of the Citizens express regret because our men had to leave & I think, some of them are sincere, and in a pecuniary point of view all regret it,
