9 Center Ala Dec. 4" 1865 Monday I wrote a letter to Mrs C J. Henderson this evening. I and J D Baker took a Horse back ride on the Hampton Ferry road, Some fine farms on the road but like all this region of Country the pine woods predominate. As we were overtaken by a shower and had to return faster than was pleasant or agreable as our Horses were not of the racking Pacing Loping or even trotting gait, but a rough admixture of all four, health promoting doubtless but rough on the Posteriors
