38 Mobile & Ohio R.R. Dec 31st 1865 Sunday There was no Transportation provided for us from Meridian to Corinth, So we took posession of the regular train from Mobile loaded on our Baggage &c. and started at 5 oclock A.M. on a heavily loaded train, this day has been very severe on the men as they had to pile on top of the Cars and the Cold rain fell heavily all day,drenching them to the skins, and the engine broke down making the trip painfully, tedious. Hundred of Freedmen and their Families were at every Station waiting to get on the train in Search of new fields of labor
