39 Corinth Miss Jan. 1st 1866 Monday New Year was ushered in on us while we were Strugling through a Cold rain in an overloaded train from Meridian to Corinth at which place we arrived this morning at 3 o clock A distance of 194 miles. No train being ready for us here we again sezed on the first freight train for Memphis. had them leave thier train of freight and take us through, so we arrived at Memphis this evening at midnight Cold, Hungry, and badly used up with a very disagreable journey from Centre Ala, to Memphis Tenn distance from Corinth to Mem 98.(Vertically, at left:-) 5 Cattle were thrown from the [break?], and killed by our train today
