13 Cairo Ills Jan 20" 1866 Saturday We arrived at Cairo this morning at 8 oclock, and Disembarked, to take the Ill Central R.R. for Davenport, The distance from Memphis to Cairo is 250 miles, We found no trains ready for us as Lieut Jackson who was sent before us for that purpose has not been here yet, The ground here is frozen & covered with ice, and we find it very Cold. We stayed at this place over night waiting for a train to take us to La Salle. The Regt. stoped at the Soldier rest, I stoped at the St Charles Hotel
