16 Chicago & Rock Island R.R. Tuesday Jan 23d 1866 Started from LaSalle at 8 oclock this A.M. and arrived at Davenport at 5 oclock.P.M. 95 miles The Regt. took up their quarters at the various Hotels & Boarding Houses of the City, as there had been no preparation made for our reception whatever. I with Major Reed & James Henderson put up at the Bairds House, Went this evening and heard a Lecture by a Turk Mr [Oscangan?], on manners of the East
