9 Oct 12 Fayette Co. Iowa 1861 We drilled 4 times today and in the evening went up to the Durham school House 3 miles distant where we tried to procure more men for our Company but failed although the people seemed to be awakened. Mr. [Swanks?] Mr Cook, Thomas, DB & W.S. Henderson were the speakers. Leiutenant [Simith?] sung a song
