17 Oct 15 Fayette Co. Iowa 1861 We drilled today on the forming of 3 sided squ -ars suitable for the presentation of flag's or reviews on dress parade. At 10 oclock I attended the recitation of Geography and Arithmatic Classes Heard by Professor McKenzie. He is the most thorough teacher I ever heard for exp -laining principles. And making scholars understand them.
