49 Oct 25 Dubuque Co. Iowa 1861 I had my first exp -erience on guard duty in the night there were several passed with countersign I made them advance on the point of the Bayonet and leaning on its point give the sign some of the guards had their muskets taken from them by the officers which should never be allowed under no pretext whatever
